Description
Lawrenceville is one of Pittsburgh’s most rapidly changing neighborhoods. The market hall was designed to serve as a stable anchor — a place where the existing community and newcomers meet over food, produce, and craft.
The building is conceived as a simple shed with generous overhangs that create covered outdoor space for seasonal vendors. In winter, the interior becomes the neighborhood’s living room: warm light spills through translucent polycarbonate panels, signaling life and commerce against the grey Pittsburgh sky.
The structural system is a three-dimensional timber lattice — visually intricate but repetitive in its components, allowing local fabricators to produce and assemble it with minimal specialist equipment.
